Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)

A BCBA is a board certified individual who is trained to provide and supervise behavior analysis. Often it is a BCBA who supervises individuals providing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).

ABA is the process of systematically applying interventions based upon the principles of learning theory to improve socially significant behaviors to a meaningful degree, and to demonstrate that the interventions employed are responsible for the improvement in behavior. ABA is a very structured and systematic teaching approach which breaks down learning into small discrete units, which are taught in small steps. Data is collected to monitor individual progress.

Neither ABA nor BCBA, by definition, is Autism specific. They specialize in behavior.
