HHS Drama Advances to the METG Semi-Finals

Monday, March 6, 2023 – The Hingham High School Drama program will be advancing to the next level of the METG (Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild) Festival after their performance of “The Caucasian Chalk Circle” by Bertolt Brecht last Saturday.

Hingham competed in an eight-school bracket at the METG preliminaries and was among the four winners who advanced to the next semi-finalist round. Six Hingham High students were awarded in their category. Ruby Blake and Ben Cavallo-Smith for acting, Lily Andrey for original song composition, Abi Bennion and Tag Tomlinson for set design, and Ella Griswold for stage managing.

“Though this festival is a competition, I am always struck by the supportive culture the theater community has built around this event. Anyone attending can see that the goal is not just to win but to lift one another while celebrating excellence.” – Joann Bellis, Hingham Public Schools Fine and Performing Arts Director.

If you want to learn more about the theater community and see some tremendous productions, you can also attend Hingham’s Semi-Finalist performance on Saturday, March 18 and read more about the festival at metg.org. More specific details about the schedule on March 18 are coming soon. You can also read more about the performance and see production photos at The Hingham Anchor.

Thank you to teachers Mo Fish, Rorie Malerbi, Molly Rabinovitz, and Mike Doherty for their commitment to this production. This group has spent many hours after school preparing the students, coaching the acting, and designing/building sets.
