Departmental procedures regarding student work and student folders

Each student will be issued a folder to be kept in the classroom:

    1. The folder will contain student responses for all unit assessments, mid-year and final exams.  For departmental “common” assessments and assessments that include copyrighted materials, the test questions will be distributed on a document separate from the student responses.  Only the student responses will be stored in the folder.
    2. The folder may also include other graded assignments at the discretion of the teacher.
    3. Students will have classroom access to their folders.  When further discussion or clarification of graded work is warranted, students and parents are encouraged to meet with the teacher to review the folder together.  Work maintained in the folder will be available for student or parental review as soon as practicable.
    4. Should the need arise for a physical copy of student work, copies of work maintained in the folder and portfolio will be made available within 10 days of a written (including email) request by the student or parent.

*Students in English classes will also maintain writing portfolios to be kept in the classroom.  All writing portfolios will be sent home with students at the end of the school year unless otherwise requested.
