Mr. Jonathan Hawes Appointed Principal of East Elementary School

On March 22, 2022, an interview team consisting of administration (Dr. James M. LaBillois, Assistant Superintendent & Search Committee Chair; Mary Eastwood, South Elementary School Principal; Mary Andrews, Director of English and Drama, Jenny Cina, Acting East Assistant Principal), school committee (Michelle Ayer, Carlos DaSilva), parents (Dawn Murray, Kelly Newton, Cheryn Byron), and East School faculty (Susan Roy, Katie Florek, Sharon Allen, Cindy Barrett) interviewed eight candidates for the position of Principal. After a semi-finalist round of interviews with Incoming Superintendent Dr. Adams and comprehensive reference checking, two finalists were selected for further consideration. On Wednesday, March 30, 2022, the two finalists visited East School and met with a wide variety of people in homogeneous groups (faculty in one group, parents and community members in another, etc.) and then provided feedback to our Incoming Superintendent Dr. Margaret Adams.

We are pleased to also announce that Mr. Jonathan Hawes has been appointed to the role of Principal of East Elementary School, effective July 1, 2022. Currently the Principal of the Woodsdale School in Abington, MA, a position he has held since the 2017-2018 school year, Mr. Hawes began his career as an elementary classroom teacher with Marshfield Public Schools. Mr. Hawes began his administrative career with Abington Public Schools as the Assistant Principal of the Beaver Brook Elementary School in 2016, before transitioning to his current role as Principal of Woodsdale.

Mr. Hawes holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Curry College (Milton, MA), a Master of Education Degree from Bridgewater State University (Bridgewater, MA), and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies from American International College. Mr. Hawes holds current certification from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in the role of Principal/Assistant Principal.
