Hingham Public Schools is thrilled to announce that Hingham High School (HHS) has been selected as the “Global School of the Year” by the American Field Service (AFS) organization.
The AFS-USA Global School Award recognizes a U.S. based school or district that demonstrates commitment to cultural diversity, global competence, and curriculum internationalization. AFS found significant evidence that HHS is dedicated to these principles through its overall mission of preparing students to be productive members of an ever-changing global society. This commitment is further demonstrated by the school’s globally focused course listings and support for international clubs, students, and service learning.
The application was submitted by HPS’ World Language Director, Erica Pollard. She stated, “This achievement underscores the collaborative spirit of our high school community. I referenced almost every department in our application and uncovered global learning initiatives in every corner of the school. The HHS faculty’s dedication is truly commendable, and I’m immensely proud of their contributions to earning this award.”
Shortly after hearing the good news from AFS, HHS Principal Rick Swanson shared the honor with his faculty through an email, stating, “Erica Pollard, the chief author of our application materials, deserves special thanks and recognition. However, this award belongs to our entire community and especially to our faculty. Collectively, you have helped build a school with a genuine global focus; a school that prepares students incredibly well for life in a world that is ever more interconnected. I am deeply grateful to work alongside the kind of people who make something like this possible. Thank you… and congratulations!”
AFS will present Hingham High School with the distinguished honor of Global School of the Year at the annual awards ceremony from March 23-26, 2024, in Alexandria, Virginia.
