Monday, January 9, 2023 – The Hingham Public Schools Fine Arts Department is pleased to announce that the department has been awarded a $3,250 grant from the Mass Cultural Council.
The grant will allow for an HPS alumnus who is currently a professional potter to run a five-day classroom workshop out of Hingham High School. This visiting artist workshop will teach HHS pottery students how to design rubber and clay stamps to use when creating their pottery.
“The goal is not only to help students learn new artistic techniques but also to connect students with local, working professionals to show them what “being an artist” can look like in the context of their local culture and community.” – Joann Bellis, HPS Fine Arts Director
“Hingham Public Schools takes pride in providing quality arts programming to its students,” said State Senator Patrick O’Connor (R-Weymouth). “This additional support from the Mass Cultural Council will allow the district to further strengthen its offerings, and I am excited to see the funding be put to good use.”
The artist workshop will begin on March 29 and will be offered to all Wheel Throwing, Advanced Wheel Throwing, and Ceramics and Sculpture I and II students.
Mass Cultural Council funds reach every community in the Commonwealth. Its mission is to promote excellence, education, access, and diversity in the arts, humanities, and sciences, to improve the quality of life for all Massachusetts residents and contribute to the vitality of our communities and economy.
